Xenophobic man rips hijab off of woman on Southwest Airlines flight, screams "This is America!"

xenophobe
On this edition of xenophobic white America, we have a man who was traveling from Chicago to New Mexico. He noticed a woman wearing a hijab and decided that it was his civic duty to march up to her and rip her hijab off, exposing her face and hair. He then proceeded to scream at her: "Take this off! This is America!"

The 37-year-old xenophobe plead guilty to one count of "using force or threat of force to intentionally obstruct a Muslim woman...in the free exercise of her religious beliefs. "
A sentence hearing has not yet been scheduled.

If you're wondering why Muslim women wear a hijab, they do so in the name of modesty. This type of modesty has nothing to do with terrorism. It has to do with Muslim women respecting their husbands, and remaining steadfast in their faith.

Ever since the Paris and Brussels attacks, Islamophobia has increased substantially. It was already challenging for Muslims to travel, but it has become much harder since the ISIS attacks. Donald Trump is making the issue worse, calling for a ban on all Muslims (by the way, do NOT vote for Trump).

My Two Cents

Look, I get it. Americans and the rest of the world are scared of terrorists. However, that does not mean that we degrade all Muslims because of what a few bad apples have done. Do we need to be vigilant? Yes. But, we also have to look out for one another, this includes the Muslim men and women who have also been victims of terrorism. Is it so hard to believe that the majority of Muslims are actually good people? Seriously, open your eyes and stop being so afraid. We are all different for a reason: to learn from one another. Just remember that with all of our differences, we are all connected at the same time. We all bleed red blood. We all want a good life. This is our only shot at life. Are we going to spend it being cowards, or are we going to be a friend to those who need one? You decide.

I feel so badly for the woman. I cannot imagine how scared she must have been. Sending healing prayers to her!
