Some of the biggest names in the written word have come out against the idea of Donald Trump becoming president. Over 450 writers and authors, including Stephen King, have gathered together to write a letter declaring their opposition to the GOP candidate.

In the letter, writers condemn Trump for his abusive viewpoints and causing extreme division in the country in order to gain more power. Writers also stated that Trump's wealth and celebrity do not qualify someone to speak for all Americans, especially the military.

Here's the full letter below, courtesy of Lit Hub:

"Because, as writers, we are particularly aware of the many ways that language can be abused in the name of power;
Because we believe that any democracy worthy of the name rests on pluralism, welcomes principled disagreement, and achieves consensus through reasoned debate;
Because American history, despite periods of nativism and bigotry, has from the first been a grand experiment in bringing people of different backgrounds together, not pitting them against one another;
Because the history of dictatorship is the history of manipulation and division, demagoguery and lies;
Because the search for justice is predicated on a respect for the truth;
Because we believe that knowledge, experience, flexibility, and historical awareness are indispensable in a leader;
Because neither wealth nor celebrity qualifies anyone to speak for the United States, to lead its military, to maintain its alliances, or to represent its people;
Because the rise of a political candidate who deliberately appeals to the basest and most violent elements in society, who encourages aggression among his followers, shouts down opponents, intimidates dissenters, and denigrates women and minorities, demands, from each of us, an immediate and forceful response;
For all these reasons, we, the undersigned, as a matter of conscience, oppose, unequivocally, the candidacy of Donald J. Trump for the Presidency of the United States."

The authors urge Americans to respond immediately and forcefully, by voting against Trump in November.

My Two Cents

I am so happy that some of my favorite authors are involved in this letter. Donald Trump needs to be stopped. He has caused incredible damage already by expressing his racist, Islamophobia, xenophobic, sexist, transphobic, and homophobic agenda. He has already darkened our country to the world. Many countries, including the UK, are considering banning Donald Trump if he becomes president. Is that the type of reputation that the United States needs? We cannot afford to lose our allies because of this toupee-wearing, bigoted neo-Nazi.

Please, get out and vote against Trump. He will run our country into the ground. The last thing we need is someone like him being in charge of our military. He is the American version of North Korea's king.

A petition condemning Trump's run for president is making the rounds online. You can sign it here.
