Celebrity baby alert: Anne Hathaway is pregnant!

Image
"The Princess Diaries" star is rumored to be pregnant with her first child with husband Adam Shulman. A source reports that Hathaway is in her second trimester and is doing great. Hathaway and Shulman married in 2012, after 4 years of dating. Hathaway has expressed her desire to start a family in recent years. She expressed that she wanted to have her own kids naturally, and then adopt a few. My Two Cents It's about f*cking time these two had a kid, LOL! In all seriousness, I'm happy for them. Grats!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Image
We all have our own definition of what Thanksgiving means to us. Universally, Thanksgiving is more than just a feast of good food. Some of us may go around the table and talk about what we are thankful for. This year, Thanksgiving has a special meaning for me. As you all know, I have dealt with a series of hardships this year. Over the summer, I hit rock bottom. My first relationship ever ended and I was left completely broken. I decided to seek help and my life has done a complete 180. This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for the hardships I endured this year. I'm thankful for the struggles I went through. Without these struggles, I wouldn't have made this change. I am also grateful for everyone who stood by me during my hard times. My friends, family, and even my readers. You have all been a tremendous support system. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, and I wish you and yours a magical Thanksgiving. What are YOU thankful for this Thanksgiving? Tell me in the comme

What to do when someone says: "We need to class this girl up."

Image
Meeting the family of someone you are dating can be nerve-racking. Of course, the person you are dating will tell things to their family about you. This can either create the beginnings of a beautiful friendship, or make things super awkward. I have ample experience in the 'super awkward' category. In my previous relationship, he told his family that I liked to shop at Thrift Stores (still do). His mother said: "We need to class this girl up." At that time, I let it go because I didn't want to create drama (my health issues did enough of that). Now that I am out of that relationship, I'm looking back with a new pair of eyes. I'm realizing how disgusting it was for his family to judge me. I wasn't wearing raggy clothes. These were clean and pressed clothes that I happened to have bought at a Thrift Shop. I ended up being sucked into his family's world of high-end everything. Anything below TJ Maxx was unacceptable in their eyes. Money became a

What happens when you step back from Facebook.

Image
Social media is a part of our every day lives. Whether you use it for personal or professional reasons, it helps you get exposure. While it may be great professionally, it can be brutal personally. Sure, you can make some aspects of your life more private by separating your friends list into specific groups. However, drama can still erupt in your close friendship circle. If you're like me and are new to sobriety, if drama erupts, just walk away from Facebook and make a positive choice. Whether it is going to the gym, going for a walk, cleaning, cooking, playing with your kids, etc., choose something that brings out the best in you. Don't engage in the drama, don't erupt into anger, and don't go out and use. Make another choice. Stay off of Facebook. You will quickly find out that you have a lot of time in your life to make good choices. In no time, you won't even miss Facebook. This goes for any social media site. My story: On Friday, a rift between myself a

'The View' co-hosts joke about eating disorders on air, sparks outrage with fans.

Image
Earlier this week, Joy Behar revealed that she asked her co-hosts what they'd rather be: anorexic or bulimic. Michelle Collins revealed that she would rather be bulimic, that way she can enjoy a meal. Candace Cameron Bure revealed in recent years that she struggled with an eating disorder. On the show, Bure said this: "Please know that while this is in jest, as someone who has dealt with eating disorders, I don't want to make light of anyone that has it. I can joke about it because I've been there." A massive sh*tstorm erupted on Twitter and many angry fans called 'The View' out on their intolerance of eating disorders." On Thursday, Behar apologized for the comments, stating that they were just kidding. While the ladies at The View acknowledged that eating disorders are serious, they still continued to make light of the situation. My Two Cents: These women have gone way too far this time. How DARE they make light of a very serious disea

Facebook is developing a feature to help you get over your ex.

Image
The ending of a relationship is always difficult, and with social media sites like Facebook, the grieving process may be prolonged. The folks over at Facebook want to make this process easier on you. They developed a feature that gives you the option to remove your ex from your newsfeed. After removing your ex from your newsfeed, you will also be given the option to remove yourself from their newsfeed. With this feature, neither one of you will be able to check up on one another. So, if you go on a date with a dude, your ex will have no knowledge of it. Facebook believes that this will improve the functionality of the site and make it a less dramatic place for all. My Two Cents: So, deleting and blocking your ex is too easy of a process for people? Shortly after my previous relationship ended, I deleted and blocked my ex. I did that after realizing how controlling the relationship was (I was in outpatient treatment therapy when I realized all of this). I didn't want to

Breaking: Jared Fogle sentenced for sex crimes and child pornography charges.

Image
According to the Associated Press, ex-Subway spokesman Jared Fogle was just sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in prison for child pornography and engaging in sex acts with minors. Fogle had pleaded guilty to one count each of engaging in sex acts with minors and receiving child pornography. Earlier this year, he admitted to paying for sex and receiving child pornography. In addition to his prison sentence, he agreed to pay $100,000 each to 14 of his victims. My Two Cents: While I wished the prison sentence was much longer, I'm glad that d*uchebag will be put away. Rot in hell, monster. By the way, dudes in prison don't take too kindly to child molesters. Good luck, pig. Readers: Do you think the sentence is fair? Do you think the sentence should be longer or shorter?

Breaking: Charlie Sheen to announce that he is HIV-Positive.

Image
Charlie Sheen is expected to announce on the Today Show that he is HIV-Positive. According to Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman, Sheen has been receiving treatment for the auto-immune disease for quite some time: "It's been going on for quite awhile. He's not necessarily comfortable talking about it. It was very hard to get up the courage for him to talk about it. I feel very sorry for his pain. And I hope it's used as a teachable moment for the world. This is a disease that can affect anyone." Charlie Sheen has been in and out of the press for several years. His struggle with substance abuse is well documented, along with his solicitation of prostitutes. The announcement will air on Tuesday morning on the Today show. My Two Cents: HIV is a disease that has caused extreme devastation to anyone involved. While it is not always transmitted sexually, it can be contracted through shared needles and blood injections. While I could make a joke at Mr. Sh

The Demise of Bubblews (2012-2015)

Image
When I went into freelance writing and blogging full-time 3 years ago, Bubblews was one of the first sites I signed up with. It was a blogging and networking site where you could share your thoughts and viewpoints with millions of people throughout the world. I profited well from working with the site. Unfortunately, after they changed the rules, in order to keep up with the Joneses, the effectiveness of the site deteriorated, and I had to go elsewhere (they had also lapsed on several payments). I left the site in 2014 to pursue other opportunities. Throughout the years, I checked in at Bubblews to see if the new changes were making the site better. They were still lapsing on payments for the majority of the members. About 30 minutes ago, I found out from a former Bubblews colleague that the site had shut down. I went online and checked the site and was greeted with the following message: "Greetings, After being up and running for almost 3 years now we regrettable need to

Days of Gratitude (episode 8)

Image
Due to the tragedy that happened in Paris, France on Friday, I decided to do something a little different for this episode. I hope you will all join me in praying for the good people of France. Even if you don't want to pray, send your positive thoughts and healing vibes to France.

Not cool, Lindsay: Lindsay Lohan dresses up like Sharon Tate on Charles Manson's birthday.

Image
It has been a while since we last heard the name Lindsay Lohan in the news. Unfortunately, she has decided to grace the news again, and in a pretty distasteful way . The actress/singer donned a flowery crop top with short shorts and thigh high boots. She posted the photo on social media with the following message: “I LOVE SHARON TATE #CANCERmeetsAQUARIUS #themelook #hippieWINTERCHIC." Charles Manson is serving 9 consecutive life sentences in prison for the murders of several people, including Sharon Tate. He orchestrated the actress' murder in 1969 when she was 8 and a half months pregnant. (Former) Fans of Lohan took to social media and blasted her for being disrespectful to the memory of the late Sharon Tate. Lindsay Lohan has not commented on the backlash that she has received. My Two Cents: If Lohan is trying to stay relevant in society, this is NOT the way to do it. Sharon Tate's murder was a tragedy, and dressing like her on her murderer's birthd

Breaking: Shootings, explosions devastate Paris, France.

Image
Update: The death toll has reached 150. Several news outlets are reporting that the hostage situation in the capital has ended. On Friday evening, Paris was hit with multiple attacks on various entertainment sites throughout the city. It is being reported that more than 60 people have been killed. There are reports of hostages being held at the capital. The hostage situation is still ongoing. The bomb and shooting attacks occurred just as the country went on high alert for terrorist attacks. Countries west of France believe that the attack was coordinated by an Islamist militant group. As of right now, no terrorist groups have claimed responsibility for this tragedy. My Two Cents: I want to send my sincerest prayers and thoughts to the victims of this tragedy. I hope that whomever is responsible for this is brought to justice. Please send your thoughts and prayers to the good people of Paris, France.

Is Friday the 13th really unlucky?

Image
For generations, Friday the 13th has been wrought with negative speculation. Those whom suffer from a fear of the number 13, or a fear of Friday the 13th may become paralyzed with fear and choose to stay in a safe space that day. There are a multitude of reasons as to why Friday the 13th is known as an unlucky day. In the Christian faith, Fridays are connected to significant events in the Bible. For example, the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ is said to have taken place on Friday the 13th. Eve offering an apple to Adam is said to have taken place on a Friday (pure speculation by the way). The Great Flood is also said to have taken place on a Friday. Connecting Friday to bad luck began showing up in literature in the mid-17th century. Superstitions associated with Friday the 13th really increased around the beginning of the 19th century. Individuals tended to abstain from writing letters, venturing into new business endeavors, and some held off on medical treatment until the next da

Days of Gratitude (day seven, video seven).

Image
Hey everyone, I have a new video up for my "Days of Gratitude" series. I want to thank everyone for their patience and for tuning in. Below is my new video: What you YOU grateful for? Let me know in the comments below! :-)

My name is Shauna Silva and I am...Two Months Sober Today!

Image
2015 will go down in history as the hardest year of my life. My health got worse. My long-term relationship ended. I attempted suicide. I went back to self-harm. Perhaps the greatest decision that I ever made this year, was the one to enter dual-diagnosis treatment. On September 12, 2015, I made the decision to stop drinking, and seek help for my psychological issues. At the time, I had no idea how much my life would change. I was extremely broken. I was shattered from my relationship ending, I couldn't bear to look at myself in the mirror anymore, and I didn't want to live. Learning how to face my troubles head-on, and handle them in appropriate ways, has been revolutionary in my life. The right medication to treat my Bipolar disorder has been key in my continued sobriety. For the longest time, I drank during times when I felt unsafe. Being around people that made me uncomfortable, and dealing with emotions I couldn't handle, those were times when I would drink the

Petition to stop Phil Collins from a musical comeback goes viral.

Image
In October, singer Phil Collins stated that he plans to break out of his retirement and make a comeback to music. He announced that he is planning a world tour and a new album. While people over 30, such as myself, are glad to hear he wants to come back, there are people who want to stop this from happening. A petition was launched demanding that Collins be stopped from coming back to music. The petition states that "there is far too much suffering in this world as it is." The petition has already generated several thousand signatures. My Two Cents: This petition actually gives me a headache because I cannot figure out if people are THAT bored to troll Phil Collins via a petition, or if they really do hate him. I grew up listening to Phil Collins. He's a great singer. I would love for him to come back to us. If people do hate him, it's probably because they were too young to appreciate the magic. Phil, we love you man! Music needs you back! F*ck the ha

The Starbucks cup: What is all the fuss about?

Image
During the last couple of days, social media and news sites have been talking endlessly about the controversy surrounding the red Starbucks cup . David Burrows, a Christian of the British Parliament, slammed Starbucks for neglecting the Christmas holiday. Burrows believes that Starbucks' cup change is more about becoming politically correct than consumer led. Starbucks' VP of Design and Content said this about the backlash: “In the past, we have told stories with our holiday cups designs. This year we wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories.” Scores of people have come out in defense of Starbucks, reiterating the point that Starbucks is not a religious business, and that it is just a red cup. What is surprising, however, is that some of the most famous Christians are also coming out in support of Starbucks. Actress/Author Candace Cameron Bure, an outspoken Christian, took to social media to state that she doesn't ne

Help Wanted: NASA hiring astronauts for mission to Mars.

Image
It was announced last week that NASA is looking for a few good men (and women) to head on up to Mars for a special mission. NASA will be accepting applications starting on December 14. Vacant jobs include: -Pilot -Engineer -Scientist -Medical doctors ...and more. There are some requirements for the vacant positions: -Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, biological science, physical science, or math. -Applicants must have at least 3 years of related experience, or more than 1,000 hours of pilot-in-command experience in a jet aircraft. -Candidates also have to pass the rigorous NASA space flight physical. Interested parties should go to NASA's website for more information.  My Two Cents: When I was younger, I wanted to become an astronaut. Only because my idol at the time was Punky Brewster, and I wanted to be like her. Just like Punky, I stopped dreaming about becoming an astronaut after the Challenger tragedy.

Breaking: Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are officially dating.

Image
A reliable source confirmed to People that the two recently single "Voice" coaches have begun dating. "Blake and Gwen have begun dating. They've been supporting each other through a difficult time and they're really happy together." Blake Shelton's rep also confirmed that the twosome have "very recently" begun dating. Last weekend, Stefani and Shelton were seen going to various Halloween parties and looked very happy together. Stefani actually is in Nashville to support her man at the CMAs. My Two Cents: I'm actually conflicted about this. As someone who also endured a difficult split this year, after a very long time together, I cannot imagine dating someone right now. I can't even see myself dating someone casually right now (I'm still processing the badness that happened in my previous relationship, LOL). Anyway, I've been a fan of Gwen Stefani's for 25 years, and I know that she is strong and knows what she

Days of Gratitude (day six, video six)

Image
In the following video, I disclose what I am grateful for, and I also discuss what I feel would make the world a better place. Now that I've talked about what I'm grateful for, I want to know what YOU are grateful for. Comment below. Let's keep the gratitude ball rollin!

Drunk woman injured after breaking into zoo to pet a tiger.

Image
A 33 year old woman snuck into an Omaha Zoo after-hours in order to pet a tiger. She went up to the tiger's cage and the tiger bit her hand. Officers report that the woman was intoxicated and was acting "aggressively." She was arrested while receiving treatment at the Creighton University Medical Center, and charged with suspicion of trespassing. My Two Cents: I'm not someone who would wish harm on a human being or creature, but this woman had it coming. I'm team Tiger.

Breaking: Actor and former senator Fred Thompson passes away.

Image
Fred Thompson, known for his work in the senate, and in Hollywood, passed away on Sunday. He was 73 years old. He had been battling lymphoma. In Hollywood, Thompson starred in dozens of films and TV shows. Some of his most notable work includes Curly Sue, No Way Out, Racing Stripes, and Law & Order. In 2008 Fred Thompson announced that he was running for President. He withdrew from the race after receiving little support in the early primaries. Thompson spent nearly a decade in the senate while also doing acting jobs. My Two Cents: I only know of Fred Thompson from seeing him in Curly Sue and Law & Order. He was a phenomenal actor. RIP Fred Thompson. photo credit: conservapedia

Days of Gratitude (day five, video five)

Image
Welcome to November everyone! I am back with another installment of Days of Gratitude. In the video, I discuss what I'm grateful for, and a major project that I am working on. Now that I've shared what I'm grateful for, I want to know what YOU are grateful for. Let me know in the comments below.
