On Wednesday, Actor/Environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio took his private just to NYC to accept an environmental award. One day later, he hopped on the jet and flew to France to attend amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala, where he had auctioned off a 7 day stay at his residence in Palm Springs.

DiCaprio's rep explains the situation to Us Weekly:
"He was asked to speak at both Riverkeeper and amfAR events, but the only way to attend the two fundraisers was to hitch a ride with flights that were already planned. Leo helped both events raise millions, donated his own funds, auctioned off his house and had speaking roles in both programs."

His trips have sparked criticism with his fans. Some have called him a hypocrite.

One user actually hit the nail on the head, in my opinion:
"DiCaprio flies from Cannes to NYC in private jet for environmentalism award. If only his self-awareness were as big as his carbon footprint."

My Two Cents

I don't like Leonardo DiCaprio. He hasn't been relevant in my eyes since "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" The only redeeming quality that he has is that he "cares" for the environment. The reason why I use quotes is because he only donates money to fund research. Sure, that's fine and dandy, but has he actually reduced his carbon footprint in his everyday life? This story makes me believe that he hasn't.

If he is going to talk the talk, he needs to walk the walk.
