Wilson, 28, posted a photo of herself from 10 years ago at a gay club with friends.
She then tweeted the following:
"Me at a gay club when I was eighteen. I feel embarrassed looking at it now...Being a 'straight girl' where I clearly didn't belong, but I will say, I felt so welcomed there. I have never had a better experience at a club than I did then. Great music and people. And one of my friends met his partner that night! I haven't been to one since college, except once when a friend brought me along. I didn't feel like I belonged there. But the LGBTQ community has always felt like home, especially a few years later when I, uh, learned something about myself. So thank you. Your support is much appreciated. I will say, though, I'm still gonna be pretty private about my relationships, as I always have been."Mara Wilson has been flooded with support from her fans.
In some of her tweets, she mentioned where she was on the Kinsey scale. She told followers that she's a 2, and that's how she has identified herself for the last few years.
My Two Cents
First and foremost, welcome to the community, Mara! :-) <3
Folks, what Mara Wilson has done is incredibly brave and empowering. During a time when everyone is in fear, she has harnessed fear and used it to 'come out.' What happened in Orlando impacted us all, and I will be honest, I was a little afraid to be who I am. Hiding who we are only gives our enemies more power. We are a strong community and now more than ever, we need to remain strong.
We need to stay authentic to who we are. If you are LGBTQ+, be proud. Be confident.
I am an openly queer woman. I will never stop being who I am. I will stay true to myself until the day I die.
Don't ever be afraid of who you are. Don't let what happened send you back into the closet. Be your authentic self. Own it.
