If you are just waking up, you're probably seeing on the news that a man opened fire at Pulse Orlando in the early hours of Sunday. It is reported that there are "mass casualties."
There were over 100 people inside the popular gay club when the shooting occurred. Pulse Orlando posted on their Facebook at 2am:
"Everyone get out of Pulse and keep running."
Witness Christopher Hansen was in the VIP lounge at Pulse when the shooting occurred.
"I was thinking, are you kidding me? So I just dropped down. I just said please, please, please, I want to make it out. And when I did, I saw people shot. I saw blood. You hope and pray you don't get shot."
Hansen said that after escaping the club, he still heard gunshots. He also saw injured patrons being taken care of across the street.

Mina Justice's son Eddie was in the club when the shooting took place. She was trying hard to contact him after he texted her to call police. He told her that he was running into the bathroom with some of the other club-goers.
Shortly after, Eddie texted that the gunman was in the room with them. That was the last time Mina Justice heard from her son.

The latest information being released tells us that the gunman is now dead.
The shooting is being investigated by local, state, and federal authorities. Pulse Orlando posted on their Facebook page at 6am EDT:
"As soon as we have any information we will update everyone. Please keep everyone in your prayers as we work through this tragic event. Thank you for your thoughts and love."

UPDATE: At least 20 people were killed in the shooting, 40 people are wounded (Source: The Wall Street Journal).

My Two Cents

It doesn't take Einstein to figure out that this is likely a hate crime. Waking up to this news made me sick to my stomach. What is our world turning into?

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of the Pulse Orlando tragedy. Sending hugs from Connecticut!
