Woman gains World Record Status for catching the most bridal bouquets.

Image
photo credit: Jezebel A woman in Utah just became a world record holder for catching an astounding 46 bouquets . Jamie Jackson has been catching bouquets since 1996, and after catching her 46th bouquet, she submitted an application to Guiness World Records, with the documentation to prove it. The previous record was held by Stephanie Monyak, who caught 11 bouquets. Jackson told officials that she has attended around 100 weddings, and she has a special strategy for being the bouquet catcher. "My strategy is to be right up in the front because a lot of time the brides don't know how far they are going to throw it. A lot of times it will hit a ceiling, it'll hit a chandelier ... I've had many, many catches where I've had to jump for it. And I've hit little kids by accident." She said that 44 out of the 46 couples who married are STILL married. She credits herself for the longetivity of their marriages. Those in her circle believe that Jackson is just sta...

I (ME) Wed: Women who marry themselves (Empowering or weird?)

Image
photo credit: lagranciudad I don't know about you, but I have been noticing a rise in women who have been marrying themselves. Women go through the normal marriage routine. Only difference is, they are promising to love, honor, and obey: themselves. Yasmin Eleby of Texas did just that after her 40th birthday. Eleby pledged that if she hadn't gotten married by the time she turned 40, she would marry herself. She got married on January 3, at the Houston Museum of African American Culture. She had 10 bridesmaids and a large cake. Her sister, who happens to be a minister, officiated the ceremony. For those of you who were wondering, self-marriage is not legal in the US. Still, Yasmin Eleby wanted to commit to her happiness, which is something I find extremely empowering. photo credit: blacksportsonline My Two Cents: I find it absolutely beautiful when a woman vows to be happy with herself. There are so many negative messages in this world, and so many r...

Hawaiian wedding interferes with Obama's golf plans; asks couple to relocate at the last minute.

Image
photo credit: Huffington Post A couple had to move their wedding to another venue when President Barack Obama arrived at a golf course on a Hawaiian Marine Base Camp on Sunday. The couple, Natalie Heimel and Edward Mallue Jr., are both captains in the army and were set to marry at a venue at the golf course, until Obama came to town to play golf. Since he regularly visits the golf course, the army captains did invite the president to the wedding, but he declined. After the couple were told to move their wedding away from the Marine Base Camp, the bride became emotional. The groom's sister stated that they had to change everything less than 24 hours before the couple wed. The couple were able to have their wedding at another venue, which was described as being better and prettier than the venue at the golf course. As for the president, he did call the bride to apologize and congratulate them. The bride said that the phone call "made their day." My Two Cents: I...

World famous lawyer Amal Alamuddin marries American actor

Image
photo credit: Buisinesswoman Thirty-six year old British barrister Amal Alamuddin tied the knot with American actor George Clooney over the weekend. It was an intimate ceremony that took place at the Aman Canal Grande located in Venice, Italy. Celebrities, such as Matt Damon and John Krasinski were in attendance. The relationship between Alamuddin and Clooney has been relatively low-key. Clooney shared the news of his wedding while at a charity benefit in Tuscany, Italy, saying: "I would just like to say to my bride-to-be, Amal, that I love you very much and I can't wait to be your husband." Alamuddin has represented many high profile criminals, the most famous of which is WikiLeaks narc, Julian Assange. Meanwhile, folks here in the United States have been waiting for Clooney to get married at some point. He had stated many years ago that he would never get married or have children. Well, I guess it takes the right woman to change any man's mind! You might be w...

Over 20,000 couples set to wed on 12/13/14

Image
A lot of engaged couples want to choose a wedding day that has some sort of significance, they all want that lucky day. There was quite a scramble for couples to marry on 7/7/07 (in fact, a dear friend of mine married her husband on that day). Looks like 12/13/14 will be no different. In what looks to be a wedding clusterfuck, tens of thousands of couples are currently scrambling to reserve the best that Churches and reception halls have to offer before time runs out (check the calender, folks. T-minus 5 months and counting for all you engaged folks). One of the engaged couples that chose 12/13/14 as the "big day" was interviewed, and explained why they chose that day : " I wanted to have a cool wedding date. I always wanted a winter wedding, so I originally picked Dec. 6. But that wasn't cool, and when I found out that 12/13/14 fell on a Saturday, I knew I had to pick it. We started planning as soon as we got engaged last September. " *yawn* ------...
