"I think the issue right here is, I'm going to do everything I can to defeat Donald Trump. I think Trump in so many ways will be a disaster for this country, if he were to be elected president."Does this mean he is dropping out of the race? According to the Bern man, he is still fighting his way to the Democratic National Convention.
Sanders told CBS this morning that he is not ready to endorse Clinton because she "hasn't brought forth the proposals that I think the American people need to hear."
Sanders is in talks to endorse Hillary Clinton at some point, but he is unsure of a timeline. He is still looking to see if they can work together to not only defeat Trump, but to strengthen America.
What does this mean for his supporters?
While nothing has been announced regarding what his voters should do in the event he does drop out and endorse Clinton, I believe he would encourage his supporters to back Clinton. The main priority is to defeat Trump, first and foremost.
I am in a lot of Bernie Sanders groups on Facebook, and NONE of them would dream of voting for Clinton. Bernie supporters have a hashtag #BernieorBust, which suggests that, no matter what, they will be voting for the Senator from Vermont come November.
As someone who has supported Bernie Sanders since he entered the race, I'm not sure if I can make that commitment to vote for Clinton. I would need to see a lot more from Clinton in order to make that choice. I'm not going to vote for someone I don't trust in order to overthrow a tyrant like Trump. I'd rather write Sanders' name in, or Jill Stein.
