Born on this day in 1967: Kurt Cobain.

Today marks what would have been grunge rocker Kurt Cobain's 49th birthday.

Kurt Cobain pretty much owned the first half of the 1990s when he and his band Nirvana dominated the music industry.

Nirvana actually formed in 1986, and put out their first CD, "Bleach" in 1989, under an independent label called Sub-Pop records. They gained popularity overseas, and in 1991, they signed with Geffen records. "Nevermind," Nirvana's masterpiece, was released shortly after. This record put this band on the map and made them one of the most iconic bands in history.
The instant popularity did start to take its toll on Kurt Cobain.

In 1992, Cobain married Hole front woman, Courtney Love, and they had a daughter together, Frances Bean Cobain.
Between 1992 and 1994, two more albums were released: "Incesticide" and "In Utero."

1994 became the year when the music world became dark. Between dealing with the depression from his childhood, and the instant popularity of his band, Kurt Cobain unraveled. On March 4th, Cobain was hospitalized for an unsuccessful suicide attempt. However, a month later, Cobain's body was found in his home in Seattle, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. Next time him was a suicide letter, addressed to his wife and daughter.
Cobain was 27.

My Two Cents:

Kurt Cobain was one of my first celebrity crushes in the early 1990s. His music felt like he was speaking to my very soul. Kurt Cobain was perhaps one of the few musicians that could speak to a person's artistic soul. His words and the melody painted a picture of what you don't want the world to see. Instead, Cobain displayed it all for us, like a music messiah. His music let it all out for us, that silent scream inside of us, he screamed it for us.

Kurt Cobain, I lift my glass of Pellegrino in your honor, and celebrate your 49th birthday. Your soul lives on, brother!
