It has been a tough week here in America. On Tuesday, news broke that an innocent man by the name of Alton Sterling was shot and killed by a police officer (for no reason whatsoever). The shooting captured worldwide attention, and many took to social media to express their feelings on this tragedy. Dozens of celebrities expressed their feelings, but there is one celebrity that didn't express themselves in a proper way: Mischa Barton.

The 30-year-old actress took to social media and posted a photo of herself on a boat, wearing a bikini. In her hand was a glass of wine. Along with the photo was the following message:
"I’m truly heart broken to watch videos like the #altonsterling execution. This may have been going on forever in the United States but thank god the pigs get caught on camera now. Its unthinkable and an embarrassment to America. The country I was brought up in. Somebody make change. We need gun control and unity. And a real President so think about that when this election is around the corner. The world is a precarious place right now. #stop #reflect and #act appropriately."
She got an earful from her "fans" as they called her out on her insensitive tribute to Alton Sterling.

My Two Cents

While I understand that Mischa Barton wanted to pay tribute to Sterling, she did it the wrong way. Posting a photo of yourself on a boat in paradise is not the right message to send right now. Maybe an inspirational quote (calling for gun control, slamming police brutality, etc), or a video message...anything but this photo.

To me, Mischa Barton comes off snooty in this photo. It's too "white privilege" for me.
