NJ governor Chris Christie slammed for hitting the beach during shutdown.

Around this time of year, Americans head to the beach to catch some rays, frolic in the ocean waters, and have some good ole fashion summer fun.
Well, if you live in New Jersey, all of those plans were shot down, thanks to the government shutdown.
While the shutdown made major news alone, it didn't make nearly as big of a splash as Chris Christie's beach trip did.

On Sunday, the 54-year-old governor and his family went to Island Beach State Park and had some 'fun in the sun.' Mind you, all state parks, beaches, and more were closed due to the shutdown.
Not only did Christie take heat from residents of NJ, he got slammed by people all over the globe. Christie laughed off the haters, saying:

"I don’t apologize for it. I don’t back away from it. Let’s be really clear. That’s our residence and we have a right to be there whenever we want to be there."

As of today, a budget was signed and all parks and beaches are now open.

My Two Cents

I have a couple of online friends who live in NJ and they were appalled that the governor was at the beach during a government shutdown. Yes, Christie may have ownership of that beach, but, he could have stood in solidarity with his fellow citizens and halted his trip until the shutdown was lifted. I think it was rather sickening for him to flaunt his privilege while everyone else in NJ baked under the summer temps.

Mr. Christie, you have 6 months left in your reign. Use your time wisely, think of your fellow citizens, and may God have mercy on you.
