The Old Farmer's Almanac releases forecast for 2016-2017 winter season.

While most of us in the United States are roasting in an inferno, the Old Farmer's Almanac released their forecast for the upcoming winter season. If you're a snow lover, you will be pleased.
North America can expect a strong winter season. Below I will outline what your region can expect.

Northeast
  • Colder than normal
  • Normal snowfall
  • Above normal precipitation (ice, sleet, etc).
  • The coldest periods will occur in the second half of December, second half of January, mid-February, and the first half of March.
  • The snowiest periods will occur in the middle of November, the second half of January, second half of February, and the first half of March.
Western states
  • Temps will be above normal
  • Precipitation will be below normal. 
  • Coldest periods will occur in December and the second half of January. 
  • Snowfall will be above average in the north, and below average everywhere else. Peak snowfalls will occur in late November, the first half of December, and the middle of January.
Pacific Northwest
  • Below normal temperatures in the north, above normal in the south.
  • Rainer than normal
  • Snowfall will be above normal in the north and below normal in the south. 
  • Snowfall will peak in the first half of December and the first half of January.
Upper Mid-West
  • Colder than normal, with the coldest periods occurring in mid-December, most of January, and February. 
  • Precipitation will be above normal in the east, and below normal in western parts of this region.  
  • Snowfall will be above normal in the Minneapolis area eastward, and lower than normal in western parts. 
  • Peak snowfall will occur in most of December, the middle of January, and most of February. 
The Rockies
  • Temps will be above normal
  • Precipitation will be below normal.
  • You can expect the coldest periods to occur in December and the second half of January. 
  • Snowfall will be above normal in northern portions of this region, and below normal everywhere else. 
  • Peak snowfall will occur in the second half of November, the first half of December, and the middle of January. 
Keep in mind that the Old Farmer's Almanac has an 80% accuracy rating. These forecasts are subject to change. The forecasts merely give readers a glimpse into what our upcoming winter season could be like.
