3 musicians/bands that need to come back into the spotlight
Growing up, I spent my time listening to a lot of alternative rock, classic rock, grunge, and riot grrrl music.
As I've gotten older, I've seen music change and evolve with the times. However, my love for the stars of yesteryear continue.
Below are some of the musicians that I desperately want to come back into the spotlight:
1) Bif Naked
Bif Naked didn't become widely known until her song "Lucky" was featured on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Thereafter, hits such as "I Love Myself Today (my personal favorite)" and "Choking on the Truth" began to rock the music world.
Bif Naked put out her last CD in 2012, a CD of acoustic hits. In 2009, she put out an album called "The Promise." She battled and survived cancer, an experience she talks about openly on her Facebook page. Currently, she is planning her upcoming nuptials to Steve Allen, a friend of former bandmate, Jacen Ekstrom.
2) Shirley Manson (Garbage)
Shirley Manson is the vocal powerhouse behind the amazing band, Garbage. This band pretty much owned most of the 1990s and the early 2000s. Hits, such as "Only Happy When it Rains," "When I Grow Up (a personal favorite)," and "Special." Manson's music has been featured all over the place in movies and TV.
In 2008, Manson and Geffen records terminated their contract together. She did continue to write despite not having a record deal. She did work on solo material and worked with other artists. However, she cancelled her solo work in 2012, telling fans that her album is "dead and buried."
She recently provided vocals for a song on Netflix's revival of "Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp." soundtrack.
Shirley, please come back to us. We desperately need your music!
3) The Color Green
Unless you've seen the 90s indie flick "Girl," or lived in the Los Angeles area in the 90s and 00s, you have probably never heard of this band before. Well, let me tell you, this band is friggin amazing. They are an indie gem and I wish they were more widely known. The Color Green is fronted by Jon Kahn, a soulful man with the heart of an artist. The band was approached to provide songs for the indie movie "Girl," and they provided artistic songs, such as "Girl," "One Step Forward," and "Never."As of 2014, they were still touring in the Los Angeles area. Why this band isn't more popular, I will never know. They are too good!
