‘Roseanne’ to return to ABC in 2018

In the day and age of resurrecting dead TV shows from yesteryear, we can add another popular sitcom to the list.
Last week, ABC greenlit bringing back America’s favorite lower middle-class family from the 1990s. From the late 80s to the late 90s, ‘Roseanne’ was all of us. She was the matriarch in a family that was just barely making it through. With strong wit and a tight bond, the Connors overcame every obstacle they faced.
When ‘Roseanne’ ended in 1997 with “Into that good night,” we learned that Dan Connor died from that heart attack he had at Darlene’s wedding. Darlene ended up with Mark Healy, and Becky ended up with David Healy. We also learned that Jackie, Roseanne’s sister, was gay.

ABC will be bringing back the hit sitcom for 8 episodes in 2018, with most of the original cast set to reprise their iconic roles.
The question that has been plaguing everyone’s minds, myself included, is: How can John Goodman come back if his character died?
According to a source close to the revival, Dan is very much alive. They’re going to pretend like it never even happened.”
As for the curveball left back in 1997 regarding Becky and Darlene’s relationships with the Healy men, a source claims that what took place in the series finale would be ignored.

The case of the ‘two Becky’s’
Remember during the series when Lecy Goranson left for a bit and Sarah Chalke stepped in to keep the Becky character in the show? Well, both actresses will be returning to the show, only Goranson will be reprising Becky Connor, and Chalke will be playing another character.
The only original cast member that we won’t see is Glenn Quinn, who played Mark Healy. Quinn passed away in 2002 from a heroin overdose.

Reps from ABC have not commented on the revival much, except to confirm that the show is happening.

My Two Cents

As someone who spent the majority of the 90s in her teen years, I watched ‘Roseanne.’ I remember wanting to be just like Darlene Connor. She was quick-witted and never apologized for being herself.
When I found out that ‘Roseanne’ was coming back to TV, I was perplexed. My first question was: “How are they going to fit in the who ‘Dan died’ thing?” Then, I prayed to God above that they don’t butcher this revival (that fear went away when I saw that the original cast was signing on).
After the dust settled in my brain, I realized that this show coming back is perfect timing. In a Trump-era world, wouldn’t a show, like ‘Roseanne,’ speak to millions of families in our country? The message that this show has stands the test of time.

I actually think this show coming back is a great idea. Only, do we have to wait until next year to break out the flannel and watch?
