Gene Simmons tells depressed people to "kill themselves."
After spouting at the mouth about American immigrants who 'do not speak English,'Gene Simmons decided to go after depressed people (this week of all weeks), telling them that they need to just "fucking kill themselves." Simmons stated that he's the type of person that would shout at someone atop of a building to just jump.
He also stated that he doesn't understand why people complain about depression. He talked about his mother being in a concentration camp during Nazi Germany, and how she is doing fine right now. He said that all these 20 year old kids who are saying they're depressed need to just " fucking kill themselves."
Motley Crue rocker Nikki Sixx responded to Gene Simmon's criticism. He said that somewhere, some 20 year old KISS fan struggling with depression is going to think that they need to kill themselves (because Gene said so). Sixx also discussed his personal struggles with depression and tweeted Simmons if he would be happy if he had killed himself years ago. Simmons didn't respond to the tweet.
I happen to have grown up listening to KISS music, and I like the band. I have a huge problem with people who talk shit about people who are depressed and people who commit suicide. Also, this is NOT the week to be telling depressed folks to "kill themselves!" As someone who had struggled with depression as a child, teenager, and twenty-something, I am sickened by Simmon's comments. I attempted suicide numerous times as a teenager, and had many close calls. I didn't think I was going to make it past 18. I'm going to be 32 in December. I'm GLAD I didn't succeed in killing myself. I can use what I have gone through to help someone in need.
People, we need to STOP criticizing someone who is depressed. If someone is thinking about killing themselves, talk to them, get them help. Intervene! God, don't let it go!
I think Gene Simmons should be ashamed of himself. I don't know what his fucking problem is, but he needs to understand that he does have a huge fan base, some of which may be at an impressionable age. Nikki Sixx brought up a good point. What if Simmons DOES have a fan or two who is in crisis and decides to take Simmons words seriously? Would Simmons be able to sleep at night knowing one of his fans took their life because he told them to?
This is not the week to be criticizing people who are in crisis. We need to be helpful to those in crisis. And Gene Simmons needs to stop being an asshole and get back to making music. Music is the only reason why Gene Simmons is still relevant.
