So much for "Love Thy Neighbor.."
Christian Contemporary Music singer/writer Vicky Beeching recently 'came out' as a lesbian, and the news has sent shock waves among those who have accepted Christ as their Lord and savior.
The British singer told The Independent the following:
“What Jesus taught was a radical message of welcome and inclusion and love. I feel certain God loves me just the way I am, and I have a huge sense of calling to communicate that to young people."Beeching states that she realized she was gay when she was 13 years old. She felt conflicted about her feelings and had many evangelical leaders trying to pray the "demon of homosexuality" out of her.
Many Christians are now throwing a shitfit on the news of her 'coming out' and condemning her for living a "sinful lifestyle." Her Facebook fanpage has dozens of comments from (former) fans saying that she's a "disgrace" and that she needs to "come back to Jesus." The comments are enough to make your blood boil and your skin crawl. I've even heard that radio stations are now boycotting playing her songs, and Christian stores will refuse to sell her records.
This is precisely the reason why I don't identify myself with a religion. Vicky Beeching hasn't done anything wrong. All she has done is be honest with herself and with her fans. Her only sin is that she LOVES differently than straight people. Why condemn someone who is loving another human being?
Let me break it down for you guys:
Being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning, asexual, or pansexual is NOT a sin nor disgraceful. No one CHOOSES to be gay. Gay people are born gay. Lesbians are born lesbian. Bisexuals are born bisexuals. And, straight people are born straight. The only CHOOSING going on here is the CHOICE to be happy with who one is on the inside.
The bible-thumping assholes can say all they want about "homosexuals being an abomination," but why should we listen to a group of people who believe in a work of fiction written by some misogynistic, racist, homophobes thousands of years ago?
I know that Vicky Beeching is steadfast in her faith, and that is great. She needs to continue doing what she feels is right and walk with her head held high. She shouldn't let religious shitheads tell her that she's an "abomination." What Vicky Beeching did was incredibly brave and she will definitely help a lot of Christians who are trying to come to terms with their sexuality.
I've heard some of Vicky Beeching's music and it isn't bad! Here are some of her best CDs below!
