The unfortunate bias against chronic pain/chronic illness sufferers.

Image
Living with chronic pain/chronic illness is not easy. We wake up each day feeling as if we've been run over by an 18 wheeler. Throughout the day, those sensations never go away. It takes great might for us to do even the most mundane of activities (showering, brushing teeth, getting out of bed, pouring a cup of coffee, etc). Our lives are in the hands of doctors and medication. What happens when we are unable to speak to our doctors, and get our hands on medication, especially in an emergency? My friend Miriam unfortunately knows the answer to that. Miriam suffers from Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD). MCTD is a mixture of Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Scleroderma, Raynaud's Phenomenon, and others. All of these diseases are painful on their own. Can you imagine what it is like for someone who suffers from MCTD? Recently, Miriam was unable to contact her Rheumatologist, as they were on vacation. Miriam was suffering a substantial flare up of symptoms. She contacted...

Tiny Home Living: ProtoHaus

Image
There are many different kinds of tiny homes that one can choose from if they are considering joining the tiny home movement. Recently, I spoke of Yurts. Today, I am going to discuss ProtoHaus tiny homes. Your typical ProtoHaus is more than just a house on wheels. It is a 125 sq ft gem of a structure. This tiny home was constructed with an emphasis on aesthetics, sustainability, and functionality. These tiny homes are able to be powered by wind and solar power, so if you're looking to go green and save green, your ProtoHaus is easily adaptable. Most ProtoHaus homes have a kitchen, small table, sink, fridge, bathroom, and bedroom loft (accessible by ladder). You might be thinking: "125 sq ft? That's pretty small, even for one person." It is small, even for one person. When it comes to tiny home living, you have to be willing to part with a lot of unnecessary items. While these tiny homes do come with storage areas, the storage areas are not big enough to ...

Ted Cruz says Americans don't have "right" to masturbate. (NSFW)

Image
GOP hopeful Ted Cruz is known for saying a lot of horrific things. He once called his friend's mother a "whore" for having an abortion. If elected President, Cruz said he would force women to carry their rapist's baby to term. The list of absurdities goes on and on. Recently, Mr. Cruz decided to get onto the topic of sex toys and masturbation. He said that Americans have no right to masturbate. If you think I'm bullsh*tting you, look at the following quote from Mr. Cruz himself: "There is no substantive-due-process right to stimulate one’s genitals for non-medical purposes unrelated to procreation or outside of an interpersonal relationship." Earlier today, Cruz's college roommate, Craig Mazin, posted a tweet that calls BS on Cruz's "Do not touch your own genitals" stance: My Two Cents I'm sure if Ted Cruz "stimulated himself" on a regular basis, he wouldn't be such a d*uchebag. Then again, his han...

Tennessee passes anti-LGBT bill HB1840.

Image
Following in the footsteps of North Carolina and Mississippi, Tennessee has passed their own anti-LGBT law. This law, however, is much different than the ones passed in NC and TN. HB 1840 will allow therapists and counselors the right to refuse service to Tennessee's LGBT residents. Counselors and therapists can deny services based on "sincerely held principles." Before the bill passed, the wording was a bit different. In the original bill, therapists and counselors could deny services based on "sincerely held and religious belief." Legislature changed the wording in order to broaden the reasoning behind denying services. (Or to cover their butts when it comes time to deny services to, not only LGBT, but people of color, those who aren't Christian, those who are poor, those who "live in sin," and those who have premarital sex. It is the bible belt after all!) Those who oppose the bill believe that the wording could provide therapists and...

Kylie Jenner thinks she "started wigs." Seriously.

Image
The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan recently announced that she started wigs. "I started wigs, and now everyone is wearing wigs. Kim just used my wig guy last night. ... I just do whatever I want to do, and people will follow." The internet erupted in response to her newest claim-to-fame. Many responded with sarcasm, others hoped she was misquoted (because we all know a Kardashian-Jenner girl can't be that naïve). On Monday, Kylie Jenner tweeted: "When publications switch up your words for hype.. Damn!" My Two Cents If she started wigs, then what the hell was my high school Earth Science teacher wearing on his head for 30 years? A grey doily? I think it's real cute that she thinks she started wigs, but wigs have been around for several centuries. The downward spiral she is on is getting bumpy. In the words of your generation, Kylie: "Gurl, bye!"

Breaking: 'Saved by the Bell' star Dustin Diamond released from jail.

Image
The 'Saved by the Bell' alum was released from jail on Monday, and subsequently entered a work release program. The 39-year-old was sentenced to 4 months in jail after being involved in a bar room stabbing in 2014. He began his jail sentence in mid-January 2016. Diamond worked as a jail custodian during his sentence. The job entitled Diamond to one day of "good time" for every 24 hours worked. His hard work paid off, as he racked up 30 "good time" days. The 30 days gave him an early get-out-of-jail pass. Nothing else has been reported about his release. photo credit: People

List of celebrities and businesses boycotting the anti-LGBT laws.

Image
In wake of the devastating anti-LGBT laws being passed in North Carolina, and now Mississippi, prominent businesses and celebrities are voicing their boycott of both states. Last week, Bruce Springsteen canceled a concert in North Carolina in protest of the disparaging law. He did refund ticket sales to his fans. (You are still "The Boss," my good man!) Today, Bryan Adams canceled his events in Mississippi in protest of the hateful anti-LGBT bill that recently passed (if you remember from my post about Mississippi's anti-LGBT bill, not only are members of the LGBT community discriminated against, single mothers, divorcees, and people who engage in premarital sex, can be denied services. Basically, if you are a single mother, recently divorced, and you engage in premarital sex, you can be denied a cup of coffee at your favorite coffeehouse, this all depends on how Christian your server is). The list of businesses and celebrities keeps growing by the day, a...
