If you've been paying attention to social media, you've undoubtedly seen hashtag #YesAllWomen trending for the past couple of days. #YesAllWomen is in response to the tragedy that took place in Isla Vista, when a young man opened fire, killing nine people, then himself. The shooter, Elliot Rodger, was found dead in his car. Elliot Rodger had made several disturbing videos, saying that he sought revenge on women for rejecting him. He was angry at women for dating other guys. He was angry at men for dating the women he wanted to date. He wanted to murder sorority members at his college. Since the shootings took place, women from all over the world have shared their feelings on how unsafe they feel. #YesAllWomen have given women a voice to come together against misogyny, against a culture in which we do not feel safe. According to the amazing and iconic Janeane Grarafalo, you shouldn't. One of my favorite funny lady feminists, Janeane Garafalo recently did a comedy show and brought up the subject of shaving our vaginas, and she thinks that we shouldn't be shaving. Research shows that 80% of women under the age of 35 shave their vaginas. During Garafalo's recent comedy stand-up, she urged the crowd to stop shaving their "maidenhood." Garafalo describes the shaving of the vaginal area as "pandering" and that the pubic hair is needed in that region. This is perhaps one of the dumbest and most offensive things I've ever heard : Ms. Toni Braxton shared with the world that God gave her son Autism because she once had an abortion.    She made the revelation in her new book, "Unbreak My Heart," which discusses the procedure that took place in 2001. Due to her deep religious roots, she suffers tremendous guilt over having the procedure. She stated that she realized that she had taken a life. She knew one day that God would punish her for it.  She has also decided to jump on the celebrity bandwagon of being anti-vaccination. For the past several months, Jimmy Kimmel has been having celebrities come in and read some of the negative tweets being tweeted about them. The 7th in the Celeb Mean Tweets was released last night, and it is the most hilarious in the series. Here is a summary of what went on in the video (I am having trouble putting the fucking video in this post): One Tweeter referred to Julia Roberts' mouth, saying that it looks like it would devour an entire elephant. Absurdity at its finest. You may be wondering why I am dignifying this piece of news with a blog post, but, I find this piece of news to be so absurd, that it's newsworthy. Remember some years ago, when Kim Kardashian made a sex tape with Brandy's kid brother Ray J? Well, it turns out, Ray J wants to give the sex tape profits to Kim K as a wedding present (as the world knows, Kim K is set to walk down the aisle with Kanye West any day now). The sex tape, which was put out by Vivid Entertainment, has grossed over $50 million! In the past 7 years, Ray J has taken home about $47,000 of that fortune. Kim K, too, has made money from the tape release (her exact take home amount is not known). Kim K's soon-to-be husband, Kanye West isn't a big fan of Ray J. One would think that all nudity would be bothersome to this feminist: the exploitation of the female body, the ogling of men, what male viewers are thinking and doing (masturbation) as they are looking at the naked female on the screen.  Actress Shailene Woodley stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to discuss her latest movie, and they had gotten onto the subject of her living conditions. Turns out, Shailene Woodley doesn't have an actual residence. She said that she used to have a house in Los Angeles, but she gave it to her grandmother (Awww), since she only spent time at the house for 15 days that year. Now, she just couch surfs at her families and friends' houses.  She also lives out of a carry-on bag, has few articles of clothing, has one cell phone, and a laptop, and no iPad. She says that she finds it refreshing to not have to deal with lots of articles of clothing and not have to worry about washing a lot of clothes all the time. Actress/Author/Restaurant Owner/Celiac community leader/etc Jennifer Esposito has been generating a lot of buzz as of late, for discussing her short-lived marriage to A-list actor Bradley Cooper in her memoir, "Jennifer's Way." Yeah. You read that right. Right-winger Steve Hickey decided to wage a war against homosexuality by penning a letter to a local newspaper, asking medical experts to weigh in on how (homosexual) anal sex is "damaging to the human body." (These homophobes need a hobby). Hickey elegantly titled his letter "A One Way Alley For The Garbage Truck." Classy, eh?  He elaborated on his title by saying the following: "Pardon a crude comparison but regarding men with men, we are talking about a one-way alley meant only for the garbage truck to go down." Before I begin, I am not a Democrat or a Republican. I registered as an Independent, since I find faults with both of the major parties. My major beef is with the Republicans, and the following story is a classic problem I have with the conservative Republicans. Republicans have had a problem with the poor since the dawn of time. Most of these conservatives were probably born with a silver spoon in their hand, and never suffered a setback. In this day and age, many Americans are going through hard times and are down on their luck. Million of Americans are on the Food Stamp program. Most of the folks on the program have children to feed. Some of these folks get a lot of judgmental looks from cashiers when they swipe their SNAP card to pay for their food items, which can be quite uncomfortable.
